In the not so distant past, the only sensible way of communicating with vSphere API was PowerShell. Yes, it was slow and yes, it was Windows-only but hey — everyone has a Windows based machine for vCenter anyway, right?
Wrong. At least since vSphere 5.
Even the VMware guys seem to be slowly turning away from Microsoft and with that came shiny new MacBooks for VMware employees and a handy Perl SDK for the rest of us. You can get it here (the SDK, not a MacBook) along with some guides from VMware.
Personally, I found those guides rather vague and ended up googling a lot while working with the SDK. So I started this blog for sharing my complaints and occasionally some bits of knowledge.
